PATRIOT HAS FULL CONFIDENCE IN DEFENCE MINISTER
Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) would like to disassociate itself from the article, ‘Surat untuk Mat Sabu’ purportedly written by Maj Mior Rosli (Rtd) which was widely circulated in the social media on 23 September. In the article Mior Rosli has made severe and uncultured criticism towards Minister of Defence Mohamad Sabu, ridiculing his conduct as a person and as a Defence Minister.
Except for a single sentence mention that Mior Rosli was an Honorary Secretary of Patriot and had tried to speak up using the Patriot platform, he signed off in his own capacity as the author of the article. Patriot holds the view that it is anybody’s right to comment and criticize. However, the article has unfortunately raised doubts and consternation among the public and veterans who are unaware that Mior Rosli is no longer the Honorary Secretary of Patriot and does not speak for Patriot. Members of the public who viraled the article had accompanied it with a picture of Mior Rosli with other Patriot members.
Prior to the 14th general election Patriot had criticised the BN-led government and individual politicians numerous times. Since the election we made some criticisms on the PH government politicians too. Our criticisms were constructive, fair and balanced. When making criticism we take into consideration the local culture, and the social standing of the person concerned. Hence, the language used would be measured, appropriate, and with minimum words to convey the message. In short, we are aware of the ‘adab’ in the local cultural context.
With regards to the Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, our representatives have met him in two occasions and we believe he and his ministry are trying their best to put things right and solve problems within his ministry, including the welfare for veterans. Patriot has full faith in the minister and his leadership. Similarly Patriot has faith for the other cabinet members too. The learning curve for the first-timer ministers is high and we are currently patient and understanding, but not forever.
