PATRIOT APPLAUDS THE CREATION OF PIACCF
The launching of the Perdana International and Anti-Corruption Champion Foundation (PIACCF) by the Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamed on 11 February is deem apt at a time when the nation is seriously mired in corruption. We are sickened to see national leaders and officials in high offices abused their power and unashamedly succumb to greed and thievery.
Our nation that was once dubbed an Asian Tiger has been notoriously referred to as a Kleptocracy, a term unheard of before. The nation is shocked in disbelieve to have a national leader, and even his spouse arraigned on charges of corruption, abuse of power and money laundering. Like a fish that rots from the head, the act of that national leader must have emboldened other leaders and those who held high offices to be corrupt as well. The list of leaders being charged for a number of criminal offences are household names today.
As national leaders, all of them have shamefully disregarded honour, dignity, honesty and other attributes deserving of good leaders. Their despicable conduct are the worst examples of what leaders ought not to be.
Patriot applauds the effort by the government to establish PIACCF, and to honour two individuals, i.e., the late Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais who was killed in the course of duty, and Novel Baswdedan, an officer with the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission who was blinded by acid thrown at him; for their sterling effort to investigate without fear, the scourge of corruption. Let the courageous acts of these two individuals be an example to others that corruption is not only sinful but evil, and must be eradicated totally.
Patriot would like to assure that it supports every effort taken by the government and including NGOs at eradicating all forms of corruption and abuses.
