RCI TO INVESTIGATE FORMER IGP’S ALLEGATIONS IS WARRANTED
Patriot in our last statement on 1 May had called for Home Minister Dato Seri Hamzah Zainuddin to be censured. We now join the chorus of calls by the members of civil society and NGOs for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate the allegations against him.
The recent expose by former IGP Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador relating to the home minister meddling of PDRM is a very serious matter. It cannot be taken lightly, and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must take immediate action.
The allegations of the former IGP show there are elements of power abuse. If true, the home minister has overstepped his statutory bounds. Even more serious allegation, the attempt to use the special branch for his own political purpose is really sickening. That allegation means an intent to use the special branch to do one’s dirty political work. One has no sense of right or wrong. No ethics. Indifference to social justice. Only a scumbag will stoop that low to fight against political opponents.
The former IGP, as reported by the MalaysiaGazette on 4 May 2021, alleged that the Director of Special Branch had been called by the Secretary-General of the Home Ministry on 16 February this year and given the ultimatum to voluntarily resign, otherwise a one-month notice of service termination would be issued. This is also a very serious matter. If true, it shows we have senior civil servants not fit to occupy high positions. They have no integrity.
Patriot suggests that senior civil servants come and attend a series of lectures conducted by our esteem members on how we once sacrificed our lives and our own comfort to fight our nation’s enemies. Learn from us how we were trained to love and respect each other as brothers and sisters. Learn from us how we took care of our subordinates and the welfare of our men. In training and in operations, we toiled together with our men. We shared the fear, the sufferings, and the danger. In this respect, we were all equal.
Patriot commends the Director of Special Branch for his steadfast principle in not being cowed to be a political tool. He has our full respect. Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin cannot remain mute on these serious allegations against the home minister. A Royal Commission of Inquiry must be convened soonest.
