THE PRIME MINISTER MUST CALL FOR INVESTIGATIONS ON HIS TELEVISED CLAIM OF COURT INTERFERENCE
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 August, 2021): PATRIOT refers to the prime minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin’s televised live address this afternoon where he claimed that his critics are “uncomfortable” with him for his refusal to accede to their demands, including interfering with the courts (Malaysiakini: PM - some want me to interfere in court proceedings).
PATRIOT takes it that Mahiaddin’s televised live address comes with the blessings or approval of the Palace as it came immediately after his audience with the King and is also made in response to the country demanding for an outcome over the prevailing political crisis that teetered on matters of grave concern relating to the Federal Constitution and the Constitutional Monarchy.
However, PATRIOT is shell-shocked and takes a very serious view of the PM’s statement that there are appeals for him to interfere in court matters to free several individuals who are being charged over criminal acts.
The statement made by the PM is a very grave matter that cannot be left to the winds of unhealthy and potentially dangerous speculations and damaging allegations in the public sphere. PATRIOT is equally concerned that by the PM making this statement on a televised, live, nationwide broadcast there is also damage being done to the reputation of our nation in eyes of global leaders and foreign investors.
PATRIOT demands for an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation as the rule of law must take its bite if we are serious about restoring the confidence of the public in his government and including all the relevant institutions of good governance.
PATRIOT also expects those implicated to step forward and owe up even though it is most unthinkable or at the least pursue matters in the courts of law to clear their innocence.
