MILITARY LAND SWAP SHROUDED IN SECRECY IS SCANDAL
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has today (Bernama 11 April) issued a statement stating that a company was appointed to implement development projects under the MoD, including the land swap privatisation, is in accordance to procedures established by Unit Kerjasama Awam Swasta (UKAS). It also mentioned that the companies involved in different projects are unrelated, and each project has to go through prior discussion within a committee in the ministry and a committee in UKAS, before cabinet approval.
Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan (Patriot) on 9 April asked the caretaker Prime Minister Najib three questions pertaining to this Mindef/Armed Forces land privatisation issue. The statement by MoD today gives rise to more questions:
1. What is the name of the company appointed to execute the MoD development projects and also the land swap privatisation projects?
2. Who are the owners of that company?
3. How do members of the armed forces, those uniformed men and women, and the armed forces benefit from such land swap privatisation projects?
4. Why are deals made in this land swap privatisation projects shrouded in secrecy?
Patriot is disgusted to see so many scandals, one scandal after another, especially in the last five years. The Mindef/Armed Forces land swap privatisation issue, where deals were made shrouded in secrecy, is a typical example of bad governance where the rakyat has had enough. This is a scandal.
